Week 6 Challenge

Research
How hungry are you for music? How often do you seek other music to dance to?

Your task this week is to post/recommend 2 artists or songs that you like to dance to.
Don't need to post the Youtube link, just the name and the song. The point of this is to increase your awareness of music out there and also experiment with music that you are not used to.
This is not limited to hiphop. It can be music from any genre.

Battle
We will be doing a mock battle this weekend to improve on our battle experience and look at different aspects of battle.

Monthly Challenge
I hope you have all decided on your groups for the Monthly challenge, and decided on the song. It is due on the 3rd of June.

Remember 4 x 8s are to be executed for routine.
But don't forget to use creativity and musicality for your expression.
Students required to be a part of this challenge: Sean, Willie, Phuong, Vivian, Nick.
There will be 1 group of 2 and another group of 3.

Pick your songs soon and get choreo-ing and practicing! Time is ticking!

Week 5 Challenge

GROUP ASSIGNMENT: Due 2nd June.

Working in a group of 2, you are to put together (4 x 8s) approximately 20 - 30 secs (depending on the song) of a choreographed routine for a song by Busta Rhymes

You will be assessed on musicality, creativity, and feeling and synchronization as a crew.

The more that you try to make choreography, the easier it will become over time. Remember to groove and use isolations and keep your movements simple - This will assist you with working easily together and not over complicating things.

Ideally you should all have input into this assignment and it should not be all weighted one one person.

Today was choreography to be learnt from Sin City and the breakdown of the main elements of the routine

Crab / Pas De Bouree / Reebok / Typewriter.

1. Video: Practice all of the above moves this week. Train each move, one per day and video tape yourself. So in total, there should be 5 videos of approximately 30 secs each. -- This can be done to any speed song, however I recommend doing it to a slow song so that you can control and understand the movement of your body whilst doing this.

Use Hiphop songs for Crab / Reebok and Typewriter. (the legs cris crossing over)
Use House for Pas De Bouree

There is NO solo video this week

2. Research:
Find me a music video or video of a performance of the pioneers
Phuong - Rocksteady Crew / William - Electric Boogaloos / Vivian - Elite Force Crew
(Post this in the Fb thread)

3. Research - Find a house or hiphop song from the 80s or 90s that you like.
Suggestions for starting points - Busta Rhymes, Nas, Pete Rock, Dilla, Biggie, Das Efx, (Use the related videos) Post this in the fb thread. --> You must tell me why you like this song.

Other notes:

  • Class rates will be $50 p/month to be paid on the first week of the month or $15 weekly.
  • It is cheaper to pay per month obviously, but I will only accept it on the first week as it becomes difficult to manage who has paid.I'm not a huge fan of weekly, because monthly shows me commitments and dedication.

L:  Learn a funkstyle foundation
Please choose a foundational move from popping, locking or breaking (1 of each) -- (There are tonnes to choose from) , To assist with this, I will give you lists to choose from below, research them on youtube on how to do them and practice and demonstrate in class.
